Terminology about Pokémon

I want to make Project Pinkmoon as friendly as possible to all those who play Pokémon games. However, some terminology related to competitive battling is extremely useful, since Pokémon changes will be designed around those concepts. Therefore, this is a guide to any term you might come across in my article

Balance

A team archetype that utilizes offense and defense together. This style favors having a good response to a lot of a variety of threats. Tanks are commonly used in these teams.

Check

It is like countering a Pokémon in a certain conditions. Instead of reliably winning one on one ach time, A Pokémon's checks usually rely to force it to switch out. Alternatively it can't switch in to that mon's attacks easily but can outspend them.

Cleric

Mon who have moves like Wish and Heal Bell that can heal your team.

Core

A group of mon that covers each other's weaknesses and often chosen in same teams. Can be defensive or offensive. Celesteela and Toxapex for example together form CelePex, a good defensive core.

Coverage

A Pokémon's ability to hit neutral or super-effectively it on many Pokemon as possible. For example if a mon has a strong Ice and Electric attack together, it can hit a lot of Pokemon neutrally.

Counter

A Pokémon that can completely stop and win against another mon in most match-ups. They can switch in to their attacks safely and beat them on 1-on-1. For example Florges is a good Hydregon counter. Not same as from the move named Counter.

Movepool

Mon's entire arsenal of available moves.

Moveset

Mon's current selection of moves.

A team archetype whose main strategy is just hitting hard and a lot to opposing team. This team style does not like passive Pokemon a lot. Hyper-offense teams, purely focus on overwhelm the enemy with constant offensive pressure at the cost of being defensively weak.
